“Over the Edges”, S.M.A.K.(Museum of Contemporary Art Gent)

2000: Over the Edges. The closed, cylindrical space of a sixteenth- century tower, rising high above Ghent. Eighty steps take us to Son of Painting. An almost triangular-shaped canvas occupies the space. The narrow space is almost too small and explodes. The work departs from the physical restrictions set by space, but addresses the real infinity of it. Towering high above the city, the work seems an alter, a sacrificial table for space, light and painting. I think of Masato Kobayashi. Philippe Van Cauteren 2000年。「境界を越えて」。16世紀に建てられ、ゲントの町に高く谷え立つ塔、狭い、円筒形の空間。80段の階段に導かれ、く絵画の子》にたどり着く。ほとんど三角形のキャンバスが空間を占領している。幅狭の空間はほとんど小さすぎるほどで、悲鳴を上げている。作品は空間による物理的な制約をのがれ、むしろ空間にそなわった真の無限大性と取り組んでいる。作品は町高くに聳え、祭壇、いわば空間と光と絵画のための捧げ物台のようだ。わたしは想う、小林正人だ。 フィリップ・ファン・コートレン
